Cost-Effective
Innovations
To keep our eating disorder treatment costs affordable, we have developed several
cost-effective innovations in patient care. Here are a few of them:
Our partial hospitalization level of care reduces overhead
costs.
River Centre Clinic's Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) provides
eating disorder treatment services that are similar to inpatient programs.
However, since we are a clinic and not a hospital, we avoid many of
the high-overhead costs inherent to hospital-based inpatient programs.
In turn, we are able to pass that savings on into lower service costs.
PHP operates on a 5-day week rather than the 7-day week required for
inpatient treatment. As a result, our PHP patients are billed for a
20-day month instead of a 30-day month. PHP provides 3 months of highly
specialized and individualized treatment for about the same overall
costs as 10 to 14 days of inpatient treatment.
How is this possible? Our experience has
shown that our PHP patients can handle "unstructured free time" at
night and on weekends without continuous staff monitoring. Therefore,
they can live in safe and comfortable independent living quarters
located either at or near the clinic. We do not offer expensive "spa" types
of amenities. We do not offer amenities such as massages, horseback riding, rock
climbing, and swimming pools. While these amenities may be desirable
for a resort community, we believe they have not been proven to enhance
eating disorder treatment.
Our location enables our costs to
be lower.
Our location in the Midwest may not offer breathtaking ocean or mountain
vistas, but it keeps our costs lower than facilities located in more
expensive regions of the country. However, we do provide our patients
with spacious, comfortable, modern, and safe living accommodations
in a quaint and quiet suburban community.
