River Centre Clinic :: Living Arrangements

The River Centre Clinic offers adult PHP participants safe and comfortable independent living arrangements in a dormitory-style residence.

Independent living has a high level of patient acceptance when combined with PHP treatment because it provides sufficient structure and the opportunity for peer support without the disadvantages of a highly restrictive hospital environment.

It also allows PHP participants to practice “real world” activities such as shopping, meal planning, eating on weekends, and socializing with others.

Independent living also enables eating disorder patients to:

	*Practice learned behaviors outside the treatment setting.*
	*Practice self-responsibility.*
	*Test the internalization of treatment principles.*
	*Practice new communication patterns with family and friends.*

Independent Living for Adults

The Independent Living Area is conveniently located on the south end of River Centre Clinic's second floor and provides shared rooms and a common living area. The shared rooms are brightly colored and have their own bathroom. The common living area has an entertainment center, high-speed Internet access, a kitchen, laundry facilities and phone availability during non-program hours, except in emergencies.

Patients can pick up mail daily (Monday through Friday) at the reception window next to the lobby. A licensed professional staff member is always on call and adolescent residential care workers are always available in the main treatment building.

Independent living quarters are also located in a historic three-bedroom home on the River Centre Clinic campus. The house is typically available for PHP participants who are further along in treatment and transitioning to more permanent living arrangements.

Visitation

River Centre Clinic encourages family and friends to visit PHP participants, but it is best if these visits are prearranged with clinical staff members. The aim is to provide maximum benefit for patients by considering all factors pertaining to their treatment goals and progress. Hotel accommodations for family and visitors are available nearby at:
