Clinical and Administrative Staff
Karen Striph, M.D., Medical Director
Dr. Striph is the Medical Director at the River Centre Clinic and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. Dr. Striph worked previously as a family physician at Flower Hospital in Sylvania and was the Assistant Director in the residency training program with the Promedica Health System.
Jason Rock, M.D., Consulting Psychiatrist
Dr. Rock is a Consulting Psychiatrist for the River Centre Clinic and is available for psychiatric and medication consultations. He is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry as well as Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Rock completed his undergraduate degree at Harvard University and his medical degree from the Ohio State University. He did his psychiatric residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh. Dr. Rock currently holds positions at several adolescent and child treatment facilities. Dr. Rock has published book chapters and scientific papers related to his clinical and research interests.
Julie J. Desai, M.A., Vice President and Director, Partial Hospitalization Program
Ms. Desai is one of the original founding staff members of River Centre Clinic. She is experienced in individual, group, and family counseling with eating disorders and has extensive training in psychoeducational treatment approaches for eating disorders. Ms. Desai has developed many of the treatment methods used at the River Centre Clinic and has been a co-author of a number of eating disorder publications. She has lectured on eating disorders and has been part of a training team that has consulted to other organizations trying to develop sucessful eating disorder treatment programs. She completed her bachelors degree in psychology at the University of Michigan and received her M.A. in clinical psychology from University of Detroit Mercy.
Meggan Desmond, MSW, LISW, Clinical Director and Director, Adolescent Program
Ms. Desmond was one of the original staff members who established the Adolescent Residential Treatment Program. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Toledo. As part of her education and training, Ms. Desmond completed internships in settings providing experience in substance abuse and domestic violence. She currently provides direct care services to both the adolescent and adult patients. She has a wealth of experience in running groups on a wide range of topics and specializes in teaching psychoeducational components of our program.
Kiersten Basilius, MSW, LSW, LICDC, Associate Director
Ms. Basilius is a licensed social worker and chemical dependency counselor at the River Centre Clinic. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toledo. As part of her education and training, Ms. Basilius interned in substance abuse and outpatient therapy settings. She assists in overseeing treatment services and staff at the River Centre Clinic as well as education and outreach services. Jan Lockert, RN, Supervisor, Medical Services
Ms. Lockert is responsible for coordinating all aspects of the patient medical care for patients admitted to the River Centre Clinic. Jan has served in a range of clinical and administrative roles at the Clinic and has unique experience and training in providing nursing care for those in treatment. Jan has been highly involved in networking in the professional field of eating disorders. She has a passionate belief in recovery and offers a unique blend of hope and optimism to the overall treatment atmosphere at River Centre Clinic. Jan earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from Vincennes University in Indiana. She has previous work experience as a Psychiatric Nurse at Behavioral Connections in Bowling Green, Ohio, and at the University of Toledo Medical Center. She is currently a member of the National Eating Disorder Association and the Academy of Eating Disorders.
Samantha Sattler, M.A., PC, Therapist
Ms. Shanks is currently a Professional Counselor at the River Centre Clinic. She began her career at the Clinic as a member of the direct care staff and was promoted to Manager of the Adolescent Residential Program. She then went on to earn her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Toledo and then obtained her Masters of Counselor Education degree at the University of Toledo. In her role as a therapist at the Clinic, Ms. Shanks works with clients in the Adolescent, Adult and Outpatient Programs. She is experienced in providing individual, group and family therapy specifically tailored to the needs of those with eating disorders.
Amy Good, RD., LD, Dietitian
Amy Good is a Registered Dietitian at the River Centre Clinic. Ms. Good received a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from Bowling Green State University. She specialized expertise in the dietary management of eating disorders and provides leadership in our nutrition psychoeducation groups at the River Centre Clinic. She is also available for outpatient consultations at the River Centre Clinic. Prior to joining our staff, Ms. Good has worked in a variety of clinical and hospital settings. She previously worked for an online platform that aligns Registered Dietitians with clients, utilizing modern technology like smartphones, in an effort to track their diet and provide professional education about the nutritional aspects of their diet
Anna Lippisch, MSW, LSW, Director, Childhood Eating Problems Program
Ms. Lippisch is a licensed social worker at the River Centre Clinic. Anna earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Bowling Green State University, and obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Toledo. As part of her education and training, Ms. Lippisch completed internships in settings providing experience in working with children, adolescents and families. She currently provides individual and family therapy to persons suffering from childhood eating problems as well as a range of other problems encountered during childhood, including but not limited to: ADHD, anger management, anxiety, Autism Spectrum Disorders, behavioral problems, Conduct Disorders, depression and phobias.
Dawn Weideman, LMT
Dawn is a licensed massage therapist (State Medical Board of Ohio) and occupational therapy assistant (OTA) practicing at the River Centre Clinic as an affiliate. She received a degree in anatomy and physiology from Lourdes University. Dawn performs hot stone massage, deep tissue massage, Swedish message and myofascial release in a private, clean, relaxing and professional atmosphere at the Clinic. Dawn has a holistic approach to massage that focuses on the mind-body interaction in promoting relaxation, health and well-being. Dawn performs facial and whole body massage that is customized to meet the needs of each individual. She is particularly skilled at introducing massage to those who are sensitive to touch and relaxation. Appointments are self-pay and can be scheduled by calling the Clinic front office or by contacting Dawn directly at 419-810-1731. Services range from 10-minute to one hour sessions.
David M. Garner, Ph.D., Founder, President and Administrative Director
Dr. Garner is the Founder and Administrative Director of the River Centre Clinic. His current position at the River Centre Clinic involves strictly administrative, teaching and research duties; it does not involve any clinical practice. His office is located off site at the River Centre Foundation. Past academic appointments include Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry, Psychology and Institute of Medical Sciences at the University of Toronto; Scholar of the Medical Research Council of Canada; Professor of Psychiatry and Director of Research for the Eating Disorder Program at Michigan State University; Adjunct Professor of Psychology and Women’s Studies at the University of Toledo and Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Garner has published over 170 scientific articles and book chapters, and has co-authored or co-edited 7 books on eating disorders. With colleagues he has developed two widely used psychometric instruments, the Eating Disorder Inventory (EDI, EDI-2 & EDI-3) and the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT). He has been recognized by Institute of Scientific Information (ISI) as one of the most highly cited researchers in the social sciences. Over the past 35 years, Dr. Garner has given over 400 lectures or workshops on a range of different topics related to eating disorders and obesity. Arline Soncrant, B.A., Director, Financial Operations
Ms. Soncrant is one of the founding staff members of River Centre Clinic. She plays a key role in general operations and fiscal management, and financial policy development. She has a B.A. in business administration from the University of Toledo.
Tracey R. Darrington, B.S., Director, Operations & Compliance
Ms. Darrington has obtained undergraduate degrees in Healthcare Administration and Human Resources Management. She supervises all aspects of quality assurance, develops policies and procedures required to maintain certification and licensure through the Ohio Department of Mental Health and CARF, performs insurance contract negotiations, and performs Human Resource functions at River Centre Clinic. Ms. Darrington has a strong background in regulatory compliance and benefit administration.
